I installed MB Quart components in my Z about 4 months ago... I originally followed the "mount them near the woofers" theory, but I found after a couple of weeks of listening that I wasn't really getting the kind of sound quality I was looking for/expecting. In my case, a change of location proved to be worth the extra time and effort. I chose to mount them just forward of the vents in the door (in that roughly triangle shaped flat space on the door panel). In the end, however, as with most things car audio it is largely a matter of personal preference. I'd strongly recommend you not installing them permanently until you have had a chance to mount them temporarily and see how they sound. It'll save you time, effort, and frustration down the road.
